In this video interview, Christine Burkett says that the novelty of occasionally using a digital Bible in leading worship, perhaps on an iPad, makes for a great attention grabber. However, a lot is lost when the pastor moves away from a physical book entirely.

  1. Great post. I had a worship professor in a preaching class tell us to be very conscious of the visual imagery of a pastor standing with a Bible in the pulpit. At first I did not buy it – I did not think people really noticed it. While in ministry I have come to see how important it is to be conscious of reading from a Bible. I read from a large print bible (not as small as a thinline & not as large as the historic pulpit Bibles) and there is a sense that ‘this is the Word of God’ is being communicated in the act of Sunday morning Bible reading.
