Matthew 6:19-21 (in context)
Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
CONSIDER THIS. . .
The Two Truths about Money:
1. Money is not a bad thing.
2. Money is a dangerous thing.
When it came to money, Jesus pulled no punches. It would be an understatement to say John Wesley followed suit.
If you aim at “laying up treasures on earth,” you are not barely losing your time and spending your strength for that which is not bread, for what is the fruit if you succeed: you have murdered your own soul! You have extinguished the last spark of spiritual life therein! Now indeed, in the midst of life you are in death! You are a living man, but a dead Christian. p.169.
How’s that for an eye-stick.
The issue isn’t wealth. It’s seeking to be wealthy. There’s a world of difference between them and a universe of deception.
