And Now For Something Completely Different

Colossians 2:6-7

So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.

The Sixth Day Exercise

I’ve been encouraged to take a day of rest each week from the Daily Text. I struggle with this because I never want to try and take a day off from following Jesus, and I don’t want to overestimate the significance of what I am doing with the Daily Text. That said, I do know that many people around the world wake up and reach for their mobile device to access the day’s reading.

I’ve been working on another kind of project in recent months that I think could serve the Daily Text community quite well. I call it the Sixth Day Exercise. According to Scripture, God created human beings, his image bearers, on the sixth day. What if we image bearers took a few minutes every six days to reflect on how the image of God is being restored (or not) in us. I have created a fairly simple seven question exercise designed to lead us to reflect on our successes, failures and overall progress in the Christian life.

What if we did that one day a week in lieu of the normal scripture reading and reflection? Would you try it with me?

If you are up for it, click here to take the survey. I have taken pains to make sure it is completely anonymous. In other words, there is no way for me to know whose results are whose. I will only see the aggregate results, which I may share in broad sweeps from time to time so we can know we are not alone in our responses. Otherwise, it is strictly and completely confidential.

So how about it? TAKE THE SURVEY HERE.

WHAT IS THIS? Wake-Up Call is a daily encouragement to shake off the slumber of our busy lives and turn our eyes toward Jesus. Each morning our community gathers around a Scripture, a reflection, a prayer, and a few short questions, inviting us to reorient our lives around the love of Jesus that transforms our hearts, homes, churches, and cities.
