This Sunday, May 15th, churches all over the world will be celebrating Pentecost Sunday. It is the day we celebrate the outpouring of the Holy Spirit upon God’s people. Luke 11:13 says, “If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!” We can ask with confidence for God to pour out a fresh anointing of the Holy Spirit upon us.

Settle Yourself: Release

Settle in to your place. Take a deep, cleansing breath. As you continue to breathe deeply and slowly, gather all the thoughts and worries that are taking up space in your mind. Ask Jesus to hold them for you during this time so you can focus on Him.

Listen: Rest in the Word

Read the following Scripture passage slowly. You may wish to read through it more than once. Pay attention to any places that stand out to you. You may wish to write down any thoughts or inspirations God seems to be speaking into your heart.

Acts 2:1-4
When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them.

Reflect: Feast on the Word

Have you ever experienced an outpouring of the Holy Spirit? Do you long for an encounter with the One Who empowers us and helps us? Do you need a fresh breath of life? Maybe God spoke something into your soul through this passage. He desires to give us good gifts and meet our longings when we thirst for Him. What is the cry of your heart?

Pray

Sit quietly for a moment and close your eyes. Settle into the presence of God and just enjoy being with Him for several minutes. As your surroundings begin to fade, and you focus more and more on God, begin to ask Him for the gift of his Spirit to wash over you and fill you anew with his light and life. Commit yourself into his care for this time, and allow Him to impart upon you whatever graces He chooses. Feel his love flow over you freely as you breathe in his Presence. Thank Him for the blessing of intimacy in your relationship with Him and for giving good gifts, for He is our good, good Father.
