Psalm 46

CM (86.86)
Portions adapted by Julie Tennent from the 1650 Scottish Metrical Psalter

1God is our refuge and our strength, in trouble He’s our aid;
2Therefore, although the earth be moved, we will not be afraid:

3Though hills into the seas be cast; Though waters roar and shake;
And though the mountains by the surge of waters fear and quake.

4A river is, whose streams make glad the city of our God;
The holy place, wherein the Lord Most High makes His abode.

5God in the midst of her does dwell; she will not fall or move;
The Lord will help her when day breaks; He will His presence prove.

6The nations rage tumultuously, the kingdoms fall and fear;
The Lord God lifts his voice above – the earth melts when He’s near.

7The Lord of Hosts is with us, God Almighty by our side;
The God of Jacob is our strength; our fortress, help and guide.

8Come, and behold what wondrous works have by the Lord been wrought;
Come, see what desolations He upon the earth has brought.

9He makes wars cease in all the earth; wars into peace He turns:
The bow He breaks, the spear He cuts; with fire the chariot burns.

10Be still, and know that I am God; among the nations I
will be exalted; In the earth I’ll be exalted high.

11The Lord of Hosts is with us, God Almighty by our side.
The God of Jacob is our strength; our fortress, help and guide.
