Psalm 36

C.M. (86.86)
Julie Tennent

1An oracle speaks deep within the heart of wicked man.
No fear of God before his eyes – in sinfulness he stands.

2In his own eyes, he does not see or comprehend his sin.
He flatters self until he thinks that he is good within.

3The words he speaks are wicked, and deceit within them lies.
For he no longer does what’s good, and is no longer wise.

4While on his bed, he plots to do much evil all along;
Commits himself to sinful things; does not reject what’s wrong.

5Your love, O Lord, does reach the heav’ns; Your faithfulness the skies;
6Your righteousness like mountains great; Your justice deep does lie.

6b/7Lord, You preserve both man and beast – Your love’s beyond all things!
Both high and low find refuge in the shadow of Your wings.

8They feast with great abundance – from Your house, they’re satisfied;
And from Your river of delights, drink for them You provide.

9For with you is the fount of life; in your light, we see light;
10aContinue Your unfailing love to those who walk upright.

10bTo those who know you, Lord, Your love and righteousness impart;
And keep them in your righteousness who are upright in heart.

11Don’t let the foot of proud ones come against me every day;
Nor let the hand of wicked ones drive me with them away.

12See how the evil doers all are fallen where they lie.
They are thrown down, and never will be able to arise.
