Psalm 20

C.M. (86.86)
Portions adapted by Julie Tennent from the 1650 Scottish Metrical Psalter

1O may the Lord give heed to you, when troubled days are nigh,
And may the name of Jacob’s God protect you from on high.

2May He send you help from above, His sanctuary true;
From Zion, His own holy hill, may He give strength to you.

3May He recall your sacrifice, your off’rings may He heed;
4Grant you your heart’s desire, and make all of your plans succeed.

5We’ll sing for joy in your vic-t’ry; and in God’s name we will
lift up our banners; may the Lord your prayers and needs fulfill.

6I know the Lord does save His king, and from his holy heav’n,
He answers him with saving pow’r which His right hand has giv’n.

77 Some trust in char-i-ots, and some on horses do rely;
But we trust in God’s name alone, the Lord our God on high.

8They’ve bowed and fallen down, but we have risen and stood tall;
9Save us, O Lord, and save the king! Give answer when we call!
