1O Lord, You’ve searched and You’ve known me, know when I sit and rise;
2And You perceive my thoughts from far, e’en to the farthest skies.
3You scrutinize my journeying, arising, lying down;
You are familiar with my ways, that in my life are found.
4Before a word is on my tongue, O Lord, You know it all;
5You hem me in, behind, before; Your hand upon me falls.
6Such knowledge is too high to reach; too wonderful for me;
7Where from Your Spirit can I go? Where from Your presence flee?
8If I go to the heav’ns, or to the depths, You’re surely there;
9If I take wings of dawn and dwell across the sea most fair;
10E’en there Your hand will guide me; Your right hand will hold me fast;
11If I say, “Darkness covers me,” the darkness will not last.
12Though light become as dark to me, it is not so to You;
The night will shine like day, because dark is as light to You.
13For You did form my inmost parts; my life created whole;
You knit me in my mother’s womb and formed my very soul.
14I praise You, for I’m fearfully and wonderfully made;
Your works are wonderful to me; on them my mind is stayed.
15My frame was known to You and was not hidden from your sight;
When I was made in secret depths; wrought by You far from light.
16Your eyes there saw my unformed frame; and all the days for me
were written in Your book before one of them came to be.
17How precious are Your thoughts to me, O God, how vast the sum!
18Were I to count them, more than grains of sand they would become.
19When I awake, I’m still with You; O God, would that You’d slay
the wicked whom I loathe – away from me, foul men, away!
20They speak against You wickedly; they take your name in vain;
21I hate all those that hate You, Lord; who rise up ‘gainst Your name.
22I hate them with intense hatred; count each my enemy;
23Search me, O God and know my heart and anxious thoughts; test me!
24And see if any hurtful way is found in me today;
And lead me with Your presence in the everlasting way.
